Our jewellery boxes are usually not really organized in any particular way, but rather a load of items just thrown in all together willy nilly. But what if you could discover a whole treasure-chest full of goodies simply by organizing and categorizing what you’ve already got?
.
First things first – clear off a large space, preferably with a solid color, where you can empty out your jewellery box onto and see what you’ve got to work with.
If this is the first time you’ve done this in a while (or ever), then chances are you’re in for a few surprises. That silver ring you got for your 12th birthday? A silver bracelet you just bought but thought you already lost? Your silver and blue necklace with a clasp that broke two years ago? Yup, it’s all there in one big tangled mess.
This doesn’t necessarily mean throwing any favorites away – but it is time to make some selections based on a few key factors.
Does the piece in question still reflect your personal sense of style? Are there any vintage pieces that can be reclaimed and reinvented with a little creativity? Create three piles: “stays”, “goes” and “recycle”.
Step III: Make a switch towards compartmentalized organization.
Now you’ve been left with one huge pile of “stays” and one huge pile of “recycles” you’re ready for the most difficult step of all – compartmentalizing.
It’s tedious now, but you’ll reap the rewards the second you’re done organizing your silver jewellery into neat and clear compartments. Only you can decide on the best system for your jewellery box: organize by colour? Organize by season? Organize by category (rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and anklets)?
Another option is to sort by use, for example light pieces that are for every day wear go into one compartment and fancy, special occasion items go into another category? It’s up to you – whatever suits you best is what will work for you in the long run.
Step IV: Mix & Match
In the morning before you leave for work is no time to start experimenting with clever combinations. We wear outfits and accessories that we feel “safe” in and can count on them “working” well for our daily routines.
So before you put all the sorted silver jewellery back into the box, take a moment to play around with some fun new combinations.
You might discover options that come as a bit of a surprise to you, that you would have never thought go well together but that can become your go-to choices whenever you’re late for work, late for a date or just heading off to meet the girls for brunch.
An example might be a blend between two or even three long necklaces to create an especially rich and textured look. Or you could try wearing that “special, only for going out at night” chunky bracelet with a white tank top for a crisp, fun new daytime look.
